News and notes from Marilee Brothers... Book No. 12 coming soon! April 18, 2020 |
April 18, 2020 Hello friends, It's been a long dry spell as I agonized over my last book, A Woman Scorned. After writing a medieval romance, a light-hearted romantic suspense, six young adult books and the Soul Seeker trilogy, I decided to tackle a cozy mystery. It was the most difficult undertaking of my writing career. Why? I am a seat-of-the-pants writer. In other words, I know the beginning and the end. The middle works itself out. Not so with a cozy mystery. Basically a whodunit, it requires a couple of dead bodies, a whole slew of suspects and the ability to keep the reader guessing until the end. Steep learning curve for me, but I'm happy to announce I just signed a contract with The Wild Rose Press. I am hopeful publication will be late summer. About the book: Set on an iconic golf course, Fairway to Heaven, in beautiful Vista Valley, Washington, golfers must first conquer the front nine (Hell) before advancing to the lush greens of the back nine, (Heaven). Amateur sleuth Elizabeth (Libby) McKenna manages the pro shop at Fairway to Heaven. Her father, Ed, appointed himself treasurer in perpetuity. Libby's daughter, Sofia, works with the grounds-keeping crew.
When chairman of the board Mickey Warren's body is found sprawled on the fairway of hole #8, known as A Woman Scorned, life changes dramatically for the McKenna family. Warren, the wealthy owner of a car dealership, has a multitude of enemies, including his starter wife, current wife, extramarital girlfriend and so-called buddies who resent his incredibly creative scoring while playing a round of golf. Hmm, who would possibly want to kill such a stellar human being? You'll have to read the book to find out.
Auggie's CornerYes, that's me, hiding in my pillow fort. Why? Too many walks, that's why. Yes, I know. I'm shirking my muse duties but life has changed in my house. Mom and Dad are constantly underfoot. Even though I enjoy their company, enough is enough! They should listen to my doc who said I'm a senior dog. I need my rest, people. One walk a day is adequate. Two a day is more than sufficient. Three walks a day are excessive. Four walks? Are you friggin' kidding me? Maybe this thing called Corona will go away soon and life will return to normal. Until then, Auggie Doggie saying, "Please don't reveal my secret location.
